Obviously the quality depends on the input texture and you’ll need to do some touch-ups for finished textures, but it’s a great start for quick 3D sets that you want to build to proportion.ВP

The textures that are output are automatically mapped to UV space and the perspective is removed:

For After Effects, the process is a little different. You have to export a VPE from Vanishing Point and import it into AE:

For those wondering about how to build those perpendicular walls in Vanishing Point, hold command on the Mac or control on Windows.

Photoshop’s 3D tools can be elusive because they’re not what’s pushed by the Adobe marketing but it has some impressive things tucked away. The Vanishing Point filter (which is usually used for retouching or apply decals in perspective to photos) has the ability to output 3D meshes with corrected textures. These can then be exported to OBJ mesh with separate images for use in apps like Maya or Nuke:

Update: I’ve noticed a bug with the textures that are output from PS that limits the usability of the files: the resolution isn’t user-changeable so it can output textures that are very low res and you can’t do much about it. The workaround is to open the output images, scale them and then copy, paste and distort the area from the source image. I’m going put in a request that these textures be a user-set minimum size.
